Tseung Kwan O Velodrome Park | “Cane-A-Thon” - International White Cane Day 2026

October 15th each year is White Cane Day, promoting the message that visually impaired individuals can travel independently and integrate into the community using the white cane as an assistive tool, advocating for their rights and capabilities to live independently. The white cane symbolizes the independence and self-reliance of visually impaired individuals, representing their proactive exploration of the future.

Introduction to 'Heart, See, Act'

In response to White Cane Day, the Hong Kong Blind Union will host the 'Heart, See, Act' Inclusive City Challenge and Carnival on October 11th this year. We aim to convey to the public through annual signature public education events held on White Cane Day that visually impaired individuals can step out into society, participate equally, and embrace the message of 'holding the white cane, being independent and self-reliant,' while showcasing the spirit of self-help and mutual support, helping the public understand the abilities and needs of visually impaired individuals, and jointly building an inclusive society.

Gathering Location: Grass area of Hong Kong Velodrome Park (Tseung Kwan O)
Registration and Gathering Time: 9:30 AM
Ceremony Time: 10:00 AM
Orienteering Challenge Start Time: 10:20 AM
Orienteering Challenge End Time: 12:30 PM

Morning: Inclusive Orienteering Challenge

Participants will navigate through the Tseung Kwan O community and waterfront, tackling multiple specially designed checkpoints. Simulating visual impairment or blindness, you will need to liberate your other senses and use team synergy to complete tasks!

Gameplay:

Each participant/team will receive a 'Race Map' and 'Task Stamp Card' before starting
Based on the markers on the map, teams must plan the optimal route themselves, starting from Hong Kong Velodrome Park to find designated task points within the Tseung Kwan O area
Upon reaching a task point, complete the task as instructed by staff to receive a stamp
Complete all designated tasks and collect all stamps within 2 hours, safely return to the Hong Kong Velodrome Park finish line to successfully complete the challenge

Sensory and Darkness Challenge: Experience 'blindfolded movement' and 'white cane navigation,' learning to identify directions and break through obstacles using hearing and touch in darkness
Visually Impaired Athlete Showdown: Compete directly with visually impaired athletes, 'decide the winner,' and witness everyone's athletic potential
Decoding and Technology Application: Use 'audio description' and smart phone technology to solve mysterious tasks
Community Exploration: Observe accessible facilities around you and explore our familiar city from a new perspective

3.  After confirming your donation, we will send a 'Confirmation Notice' via email to participants
4.  At the end of the event, each participant will receive a medal, certificate, and souvenir

Participation Categories and Fees

Individual Category: HK$300 per person
Group Category: HK$200 per person (minimum 3 people per group; maximum 6 people)
Corporate Category: HK$3,000 per company (6 to 12 participants; additional participants beyond 12 will be charged separately. The organizing committee will assign a visually impaired event ambassador to accompany each team)

Afternoon: Inclusive Carnival

After completing the challenge, join the vibrant inclusive carnival at the grass area of Hong Kong Velodrome Park! The event features exciting stage performances, inclusive sports experience booths (such as rowing, stretching, and emerging sports), braille and craft workshops taught by visually impaired individuals, digital accessibility experiences, and multiple themed game booths.

Funds raised will support our services for visually impaired individuals, including funding for information technology and AI application training, as well as learning and employment skills development.
